An 18-year-old man, Obisesan Saltan has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl in Lagos.

Saltan was sentenced on Wednesday by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.

Delivering the judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi handed down seven years for indecent treatment of a child and three years for sexual assault by penetration.

According to the prosecutor the offence was said to have occurred on October 11, 2023, around 9:30 p.m. in the Gbagada area of Lagos State.

Saltan was first arraigned on November 25, 2025, by the Lagos State Government (LASG) where he pleaded not guilty.

However, during subsequent hearings, prosecution witnesses testified against him, leading to a plea bargain agreement on November 4, 2024.

During the resumed proceedings, Saltan confirmed his understanding and acceptance of the plea bargain terms.

His lawyer, Adegboyega, appealed for leniency, stressing that Saltan lost his mother as a baby and has been learning shoemaking to improve his life.

However, counsel for the LASG, Bukola Okeowo, urged strict adherence to the plea agreement. He requested that Saltan’s name be entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register in accordance with the Sexual Offences Law (2015 amendment).

In his verdict, Justice Oshodi sentenced Saltan to serve 10 years concurrently from the date of his arrest, October 11, 2023.

The judge also ordered the inclusion of Saltan’s name in the sexual offenders’ register as mandated by law.
