A 21-year-old housewife, Maryam Muntari, has been arrested by the Police for allegedly stabbing her male neighbour, Ahmed Kalo, to death over an alleged rape attempt.
Confirming the killing, the Kogi State Police Command stated that in the incident occurred at Idoji-Okene Community of Okene Local Government Area, Kogi State.
The spokesperson for the Command, CSP William Aya, who confirmed the incident, stated that the suspect is currently in police custody for further investigation.
He said, “The incident happened at about 5:30 a.m. on Thursday at Idoji Quarters, Okene. One Ahmed Isah (Kalo) was stabbed in the neck in his room by one Maryam Muntari, 21 years old, of Idoji-Okene.”
“The suspect has been arrested. Investigation is ongoing, while the corpse has been taken to the Reference Hospital for autopsy,” Aya said.
According to eyewitness accounts, Kalo had met Maryam at a water-fetching point early that morning and asked her to help him carry his jerrycan of water to his house, which she agreed to do.
Reports indicated that upon reaching his house, Kalo allegedly locked the main door of his room, while Maryam was dropping the water in one of the rooms.
Witnesses said a scream for help from Kalo’s compound later that morning attracted neighbours, who then discovered him lying on his bed in a pool of blood.
Community sources revealed that Maryam is a nursing mother and the wife of a man who has been a neighbour and political associate of the deceased in Idoji-Okene for years.
