The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has backed the State vigilance outfit, Aguneche mba’, despite the inhuman and disgraceful act against the NYSC lady, serving in the State.
He stated that despite isolated cases of misconduct, the operatives have been instrumental in keeping the State safe.
Soludo made this disclosure while speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday.
He said the security group has undergone continuous training, retraining, and operates under a standard code of conduct and operating procedures.
The Governor, however, acknowledged concerns following the recent brutalization of a female National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member by operatives of the outfit.
Soludo insisted that the incident should not overshadow the overall contributions of the outfit in securing the State.
He said, “These guys are working very hard to keep us safe and make Anambra much safer. I think most residents agree they are making monumental contributions in helping to make Anambra one of the safest States in Nigeria.”
The Governor warned that cases of excesses would not be condoned.
“The important thing is that we stand up to say, you can’t do this – that’s not part of your code of conduct,” Soludo stated.
Recall that a viral video buzzed online where a lady, identified as a youth corper, was brutally assaulted to the point of ripping off her clothes.
The development drew the ire of Nigerians from all walks of life who condemned the barbaric and inhumane act of the vigilance group. This, was as some people have called for the disbanding of the outfit.
