A State High Court in Neni, Anambra State, has sentenced an armed robbery and kidnapping suspect, Nonso Anunuobi to life imprisonment.

He was sentenced for his involvement in conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, and attempted murder.

The verdict followed a multi-year trial during which evidence revealed that Anunnobi and his gang ambushed, shot, and robbed a victim before demanding ransom.

The verdict was delivered by Justice G.C. Anulude of the Anambra State High Court 1. The judgement followed a painstaking trial that spanned several years which involved a life imprisonment sentence.

Anunuobi faced charges under the Criminal Code Act and the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, among other relevant legislations.

According to source, damning evidence was presented against him throughout the trial.

The court documents (Charge No. NN/5C/2019), Anunuobi and his gang members ambushed their victim, Aloysius Obidinma, in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area.

“Obidinma was waylaid while returning to Onitsha from his hometown.

“The unsuspecting victim was then brutally assaulted, shot, and forcibly dragged into the criminals’ vehicle.

“The perpetrators dispossessed Obidinma of his car, laptop, phones, and other personal effects.

“They subsequently demanded ransom from his family for his release.

“Their criminal activities came to an end when law enforcement officers tracked one of the stolen devices. Which ultimately led to the apprehension of the culprits,” the source.
