A Police Inspector identified as Innocent Ishaku, and two others Prince suspects have been arrested in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, for allegedly vandalizing electricity cables.

According to report, the police officer, alongside his crime partners were arrested in the Demekoe area of Makurdi around 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10.

According to the source, the police inspector was arrested at the scene of the crime by the community vigilante group.

While his two accomplices, Isa and Mohammed, both known community members living within the compound of a car dealer, Alhaji Dash, initially fled but were later arrested following Ishaku’s confession.

In a viral video circulating on Facebook, Ishaku confessed to being stationed in Benue for the past 10 years after a transfer from Abuja. This is as he admitted to being involved in multiple cable thefts, particularly in the Wadata area of the State.

According to the source, recovered items from the suspects included several electrical cables, F connectors, and a police identity card bearing Ishaku’s name and photo (ID number 309976).

The suspects have been handed over to the D Division Police Station in Makurdi.

The Head of Corporate Services at Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), Makurdi, Dr. Adakole Elijah, who reacted to the development, expressed concern over rising cases of vandalism.

The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, have claimed not to have received the cable theft report.
