The spilling of blood in the troubled Benue State is it abetting as suspected herdsmen on Monday evening launched fresh assaults in Agatu and Apa Local Government areas, leaving several people dead.

According to DAILY POST report , the attack in Agatu claimed the life of one Sunday Dutse, a native of Odejo and younger brother to a former Local Government Chairman. He was killed along the Odugbeho-Ogbaulu Road by the attackers.

“Dutse was reportedly displaced from his community in an earlier herdsmen attack. And he had been taking refuge in Ogwule-Kaduna, also in Agatu LGA.

Earlier on Monday, a separate attack occurred in EdikwG’Icho, a community in Apa LGA. There three youths were ambushed and killed, by men suspected to be herdsmen.

Two of the victims were reportedly from EdikwG’Icho, while the third hailed from Ugbokpo.

Recall that Benue State has been under siege in a conflict between herdsmen and farmers in the State.

A development that has elicited public outcry and condemnation.

More disturbing is the fact that these attacks are happening despite the recent visit by top military authorities, including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Recall also that COAS had promised increased security measures to checkmate these disturbances and killings in the State.
