Amidst escalating insecurity in the State, the Gwer West Local Government Council in Benue State has announced an immediate ban on the activities of scrap iron dealers, popularly known as “iron condemn dealers,” across the entire Local Government Area.

This directive, was contained in a statement by the Executive Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Council, Hon. Ormin Torsar Victor.

He stated that policy forms part of the Council’s ongoing strategy to tackle rising security challenges and restore peace and order in the LGA.

The Chairman stated that anyone found engaging in scrap iron trading, especially those transporting materials from conflict-affected or township areas, will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.

In a statement, which was signed by the  Chairman’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Timothy Ajieje, urged residents of the LGA to be vigilant.

The Chairman urged them to promptly report any suspicious scrap-related activities going on in the area to security authorities.

“This measure is aimed at protecting lives and property. We call on all security agencies and members of the community to support the strict enforcement of this ban,” the statement added.
