The Anambra chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has called on all aggrieved and former members of the the party in the State, including the former governor of the State and presidential candidate of Labour Party in 2023 election, Peter Gregory Obi to return back to the party.
Recall that Obi, left the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA and joined the PDP where he became the running mate to Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate for the 2015 presidential election.
However, ahead of the 2023 elections, Obi defected to Labour Party, and became the presidential candidate of LP in the 2023 elections.
Ahead of the 2027 general election, the PDP in Anambra State have reviewed it’s activities towards regaining it’s number one position in the State.
After it’s enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC), in Awka on Thursday, the party asked all members who left to return back to the party.
This was contained in a communique signed by Chairman of PDP in Anambra State, Chidiebere Chidebe.
The Chairman stated that forming alliances with ideologically incompatible political formations, in the guise of coalitions would likely not yield the desired success.
He said, “The Committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra State. Particularly our revered former Governor, Peter Obi to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP.
“We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria” he said.
Chidebe told Anambra electorates to support the PDP governorship candidate, Jude Ezenwafor, and his running mate, Francis Okeke in the coming November 8 election.
The Chairman urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure a fair, transparent, and impartial electoral process.
He said, “We call on the good people of Anambra to remain steadfast in their historic support for the PDP. They should come out en masse to vote for our candidates.”
Chidebe announced the unanimous nomination of Chief Clems Ezike to fill the vacant position of National Ex-Officio from Anambra State.
He, therefore, urged the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee under Chief Ali Odefa to recognize and transmit same to the National Secretariat.
The Chairman commended the party leadership for a successful National Executive Committee, NEC meeting on May 27. He expressed satisfaction with the template for resolution of its internal crisis.
