The Kaduna State Police Command, on Thursday dismissed an online report alleging the kidnapping of between 150 to 200 persons along the Kaduna- Abuja Highway.
The Command described the online reports as entirely false and misleading.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan.
Reacting to the reports published by Diaspora Digital Media, Hassan described it as a fabrication aimed at inciting panic and undermining public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
He said, “The Command categorically states that this report is entirely fabricated and without any basis in fact.”
“To set the record straight, there has been no recorded incident of kidnapping along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway in the past two years.”
DSP Hassan, therefore, assured the public that the Abuja-Kaduna highway remains secure.
He pointed out that the road is continuously under patrols and surveillance by the Police, Military, Department of State Services (DSS).
The PRO added that other security agencies are working collaboratively to ensure the safety of all commuters on the road.
Hassan warned media outlets and individuals against spreading unverified or false information. He noted that such actions are capable of inciting public fear and disrupting order.
“The Command is taking this matter seriously. Any media platform or individual found responsible for originating or sharing such unverified claims will be invited for questioning. And may face prosecution in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
According to the police, the Kaduna State Government, in partnership with security agencies, continues to work assiduously to maintain peace, security, and the protection of lives and property across the State.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard the viral report. And to rely only on verified and official sources of information when seeking updates on security matters.
