The Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah has offered a full scholarship package to university level to the 13-year-old girl, Ukamaka Okonkwo who was rescued from ritualist den in Ezeagu in Enugu State.
This is in addition to relocating the girl and her family away from the village to the State capital.
Recall that Ukamaka Okonkwo was kidnapped by Uche Agumba and almost used for ritual at the Ezeani shrine.
According to a report obtained on Facebook online, after the girl was rescued by security agents, Governor Mbah moved Ukamaka and her parents to Enugu city for their safety and peace of mind.
The report stated that Governor Mbah also awarded Ukamaka a full scholarship to any school of her choice, up to the university level.
Recall that the Enugu State Police Command confirmed the arrest of three male suspects who abducted the 13-year-old girl. They were also linked to the native doctor who allegedly buried several people alive in pits in his house.
The incident from the videos happened at Umumba Ndiagu Community in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The Enugu State Police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, May 29.
From a viral video sighted by ISUIKWUATO VOICE NEWSPAPER, the native doctor, named Onyeka Obu, allegedly buried several people in pits in his house. Among those captured on camera in the video, included a pregnant woman, and another body apparently for ritual purposes.
Obu is popularly known as Ozo Ezeani and “E dey play, E dey show.” in Enugu State.
The alleged heinous act by the native doctor was uncovered when two boys working for him allegedly abducted a 13-year-old girl in the community and pushed her into a pit.
However, the girl was later rescued by security operatives who traced her to the pit, which was located close to the native doctor’s apartment.
The rescue operation was carried out by the police operatives from Umumba Division. It was in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch personnel and vigilant community members.
The suspects apprehended were Uche Kingsley Agumba, 33; Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi, 36; and Ejike Odinwankpa, 38.
The Enugu State Police spokesperson stated that the native doctor had fled the scene before the security operatives arrived.
He said, “During the rescue, two decomposing bodies – one male and one female – were discovered. They were buried in a concrete-sealed pit within an uncompleted building. The building is owned and used as a shrine, and heinous criminal activities by the fleeing prime suspect (Mr Ezeani).
“Investigations reveal that the deceased victims were recently murdered and buried in the pit by the suspects for ritual purposes. And the rescued child was moments away from suffering the same fate before the timely intervention,” the spokesperson said.
Ndukwe noted that the Enugu State Government, in line with its laws, had demolished the native doctor’s buildings used for “the criminal enterprise.”
He stated that the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Bitrus Giwa, has visited the crime scene. During, which he praised the combined security operatives for their efforts.
The prime suspect, Ozo Ezeani has since been arrested while trying to flee the country through Seme border. He was subsequently handed over to the Lagos State Police Command.
