The Abia State Government has approved the deployment of the Man O’ War as a security outfit to many the various schools across the State.

This was disclosed to newsmen by the honorable Commissioner for Homeland Security, Sopuruchi Bekee, working in synergy with the State Ministry of Basic n Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi.

Speaking at the presentation of letter of appointment/ engagement to the State Commandant of Man O’ War, the Commissioner stated that the appointment became very necessary in view ot the constant security breaches especially in schools all over the country.

According to him, Governor Alex Otto considered the Man O’ War as fit and capable of the assignment based on its impressive records in security matters so far nationwide. He described the outfit as a veritable tool in providing security at the school level for the State.

The Commissioner noted that by this engagement, the era of loitering and truancy as inimical as it is in our teaching and learning environments in Abia State would have become a thing of the past.

He, therefore, charged stakeholders in the educational sector to cooperate with the Government and MAN O’ War towards achieving the desired results.

In receiving the letter, the state Commandant of MAN O’ War, Revd Simon Onwubiko thanked the Abia State Governor for finding them fit and capable of the assignment.

He noted that the appointment couldn’t have come at a better time than now, in view of the constant security breaches recorded in schools nationwide.

Onwubiko while promising to deliver effectively on the mandate, however,  appealed to the Governor to provide the outfit enough logistics.

These he said included operational vehicles that will help them cover the 17 Local Government Councils in the State.

The Commandant described Otti as a security conscious and friendly governor. He enumerated the importance of engaging an experienced security outfit such as Man O’ War for this purpose.

Onwubiko stated that Abia State Government under the able leadership of Governor Otti can not afford to joke nor toy with lives of staff, students and property in the state schools system.

He described policy as part of his good and profitable governance posture for the State.

While promising not to fail, Onwubiko also thanked the National Commandant of the Man O’ War, Comrade Adedamola Gbenga.

He praised him for his untiring efforts at ensuring that Man O’ War is ever fit and capable by his regular training and retraining policies and exercises that makes for fitness and effective service delivery in matters concerning security as associated with the organization.

According to him, the Safe School Initiative as introduced by the National Commandant is working wonders in all the places it is functioning. Hence it has succeeded at restoring some degree of discipline in the school system.

He, therefore, promised that Abia State will soon begin to experience discipline in the school system.
