The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB the as released a statement stating its plan to shutdown schools, markets, banks and others social facilities in the Southeast, Nigeria to mark this year’s Biafra Day.

According to the leader of the movement, Comrade Uchenna Madu says all markets, schools, public and private motor parks in the Southeast will be shut down on May 30, 2025.

This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by its National Director of Information, Edeson Samuel.

He said the shutdown is to mark the 2025 Biafra Anniversary celebration.

Samuel added that the celebration will come with a “sit-at-home exercise in Biafra land”.

The statement read in part, “MASSOB declares that “all markets, public / private motor parks, schools, banks, and other public business premises shall remain closed from 6 am to 4 pm on 30th May, 2025”.

MASSOB noted that 2025 marks the 58th year anniversary of the Biafra declaration by General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

“The exercise is a “mark of honour, respect and patriotism to our father land,” MASSOB stated.

The group emphasized that the observation of the Day is a means of appreciating and acknowledging thT sacrifices of past heros.

“It is appreciate the numerous sacrifices and prices our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters rendered for Biafra during the 3 years war of genocide against Biafra by the British backed Nigeria”.

MASSOB, however, explained that the closure of public places “is voluntary, not by force. It is a mark of respect and love for our fatherland.
