The Youths of Obu na Ebere Nkuma, Eluama, Isuikwuato LGA, today, February 19, marched the roads of the community in protest to the alleged shabby construction work by the contractor handling the Nunya – Ogboro Road.
The youths are seeking to stop the Contractor handling the Road project from pouring stone base materials on the Obu na Ebere Nkuma section of the Road.
The youths are insisting the contractor should construct drainages on the that section of the road under construction.
In a viral video sighted by ISUIKWUATO VOICE, a youth of the community identified as Victor Mbakwe was seen appealing to the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti to call the contractor to order.
Mbakwe noted that the same contractor constructed drainages at the Nunya section of the Road. But wondered why there will be no drainages on the Road at the Obu na Ebere Nkuma axis of the Road.
Mbakwe was heard saying that what is good for the geese is also good for the gander.
Speaking on the importance of the Road, Mbakwe said drainages will help to preserve the road and prolong its longevity. He pointed out that the Road serves many communities in the State, therefore, should be constructed to specifications.
However, the Contractor personnel have been summoned to the Palace of the traditional ruler of Obu na Ebere Nkuma, HRM (Eze) Faraday Mbachu Chinekwe JP.
Reports reaching ISUIKWUATO VOICE states the HRM Chinekwe, who is also the Chairman, Isuikwuato LGA Traditional Rulers Advisory Council has intervened in the protest.
This is as he secured the assurances of the Contractor that the full specifications of the road will be followed.
The Contractor assured the traditional ruler that willing and able bodied Obu na Ebere Nkuma persons who seek employment will be accommodated in the Project.
He also assured that hard core materials removed from the road will be used to fill the bad spots of the road leading inward to the community.
Addressing the youths, traditional ruler praised them for being peaceful in their conducts and encouraged them to be of good behavior.
On their remark, the youths thanked the Eze for welcoming them and for his royal intervention. They expressed appreciation at the clarifications and agreements by the contractor personnel.
All the parties praised the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex OTTI, OFR for his developmental strides in Abia State. This is as they pledged their unalloyed loyalty to both the Mayor of the LGA and the Governor.
By the time of this report, work has resumed on the road project after this intervention.
