A 13-year-old male Pupil of St. Paul Primary School,Samuel Sunday, has landed in police net for for wielding a locally made pistol in the school and using same to threaten fellow pupils. Ikot Ibiok in Eket Local government area of the state
The teenager who hails from Ikot Ibiok Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom was paraded with his father, alongside other suspects at the Command’s headquarters, Ikot Akpan-Abia, Uyo, on Wednesday.
This was disclosed at the police headquarters by the Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John.
Addressing journalists, John said the 13-year-old suspect took the gun from the father’s wardrobe since on November 24, 2024. He was, however, arrested on January 30, 2025, by the police.
Narrating how the boy was arrested, the PRO said the police, acted on intelligence to arrest the suspect. The boy was arrested alongside his father, which led to the recovering of the pistol. John added that investigations were ongoing.
She said, “On 30/01/2025 at about 0800 hrs based on credible information at the Command’s disposal, that on 28/01/2025 one Samuel Sunday “m” of Ikot Ibiok village in Eket LGA, a 13-year-old pupil of St. Paul Primary School, Ikot Ibiok in Eket LGA was going armed in the school and threatening to fire at his fellow pupils.
“The operatives of the Command immediately swung into action and arrested the suspect and recovered a locally made pistol.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he has been with the said gun since November 2024. That he got the gun from a wardrobe in his father’s bedroom. The father was later arrested. Investigation is still ongoing.”
In a related development, the Command also paraded one Roseline Maurice ‘f’ and One Eno Udoka ‘f’ for conspiring and stealing. The duo was arrested for conspiring and stealing a child at Obong Itam village in Itu LGA sometime in the month of June 2024. They also sold the victim for the sum of N200,000 (Two hundred thousand Naira) to their regular receiver in Cross River State.
According to the Command, the suspects were said to have used the money to purchase household items. This included a refrigerator, television, fan, among others.
The police, however, announced that all the items have been recovered from them.
John also paraded suspected child trafficking syndicates in the State. She said the syndicates lured young girls into having affairs with men. The men eventually get them pregnant, and the babies sold.
She added that, “In another development, on 01/02/2025 at about 0800hrs based on a complaint from two young girls 18 yrs of age that one woman attempted to traffic them to Cross River State. And for them to have affair with men and get pregnant in order to sell the babies and share the money. Operatives of the Command swung into action and arrested one Gift Essien Tommy ‘f’ and one Peace Ekanem ‘f’.”
The Command also paraded a 60-year-old man who defiled a nine-year-old girl in a bush. The man was said to have given the girl two hundred Naira afterwards.
The PRO added that all the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
She noted that the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare was determined to rid the State of crimes and criminality.
