Portuguese international and Al Nassr captain Cristiano Ronaldo has discredited the Ballon d’Dor, saying the football award lacks credibility.
Recall that the award has recently come under severe criticism following the crowning of Manchester City player maker, Rodri as the winner of the 2024 edition of the award.
Adding his voice to the criticism, Ronaldo, said he wasn’t surprised that Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. did not win the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
Recall that Manchester City midfielder Rodri won the Ballon d’Or ahead of Vinicius last year.
prior to the award, the Real Madrid talisman, Vinicius was the favorite for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. He was tipped for the award by many football fans following his impressive season with Real Madrid.
The Brazilian international scored 25 goals and provided 12 assists in 40 games across competitions for Los Blancos.
Vinicius Jnr also won the Champions League, LaLiga, and Supercopa de España with Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Ronald said, “Vini Jr. deserved to win the Ballon d’Or. But I’m not surprised… not only because I didn’t win it or not. But because it lacks credibility.”
“He won the Champions League and scored goals,” Ronaldo said (as per journalist Fabrizio Romano on X).
