The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has stated that its Tower T195 along the Ugwuaji – Makurdi 330kV transmission Line was attacked and vandalized by hoodlums on Saturday.
This was contained in a statement by the spokesperson of the company, Ndidi Mbah, on Wednesday. He stated that the facility was vandalized at Watuolo Village, Utonkon in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to Mbah, the community members noticed suspicious activity around the tower at about 3:00a.m. And they promptly apprehended one of the vandals while the others escaped.
Mbah added that the suspect was, however, handed over to the police for prosecution.
The company, therefore, commended the people of Watuolo Village for their swift action and vigilance.
TCN equally appealed to communities hosting critical infrastructure to emulate this example. The company urged the communities to take ownership of protecting transmission installations in their vicinity.
“As we continue to work with security operatives and host communities against vandalism, we continue to appeal for more vigilance by residents in the communities, who we believe are very critical in this fight,” the statement added.
