The Labour Party, LP, has stated that many homes in Nigeria could not afford to join the rest people of the world in the celebration of this year’s Christmas.
This is even as the party lamented that the economic hardship bedeviling the county. It noted that hardship has cut off some citizens from the 2024 Christmas celebration.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh. He stated that the party’s National Chairman, Barr Julius Abure made the remark in his Christmas message to Nigerians and party faithful.
Ifoh, however, pointed out that Abure urged Nigerians to always show compassion to millions of Nigerians living below poverty level.
“It will interest you to know that not many homes in Nigeria can afford to join in today’s Christmas. This is because of the economic challenges Nigeria is facing today,” he said.
“But I am using this opportunity to task the society to show love to a neighbour. One who may be in one form of lack or the other.
“God so loved mankind that he had to sacrifice his only begotten son that we may be redeemed.
“What a sacrifice. Today’s celebration can not be complete until we begin to allow the significance of the birth of Christ to manifest in our lives,” he said.
