Gunmen on Wednesday morning at Umuopara, Ekenobizi area of Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State stormed a military checkpoint and threatening the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti administration.
The gunmen who wore masks were seen in a viral video wielding AK 47 rifles.
From the video which was captured by a residence in a hidden location in a building near the checkpoint showed the gunmen dismantling the sandbags used to barricade the road.
The armed men, who were clad in civilian attires, were seen shooting sporadically at the checkpoint.
From the video, a voice of one of them was also heard threatening the Abia State governor, Alex Otti.
He said, “We’re removing it, Alex Chioma Otti, we are removing it. Alex, we’re giving you people order. We say (sic) we don’t need this kind of nonsense again.
“Today is November 13, 2024. Alex, we’re dismantling this checkpoint. And we’re giving you a direct order not to come close. If we see this nonsense again, Alex, you are gone.
“If we see this nonsense again, you are gone, Alex,” the voice was heard saying.
According to sources, the gunmen attacked the military checkpoints at Umuopara, Ekenobizi area of Umuahia South LGA on Wednesday morning.
The checkpoint, which is located close to Onu Imo River, is the boundary between Abia and Imo States.
However, by the time of filing in this report, neither the Abia State Government nor the Nigerian Army has commented on the development.
Recall that soldiers of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks; 14 Brigade headquarters, Ohafia, last week repelled an attempted attack by gunmen on police and military checkpoints in the State.
