Two primary suspects, Dennis Ali and Ituma Sunday have been nabbed by the Ebonyi State Police Command for allegedly involved in a disturbing viral video where two teenage girls were stripped, flogged, and brutalized.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi Command, DSP Joshua Ukandu.
According to the statement, the incident occurred in November 2023 at Ojiegbe Ngbo Community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the State.
DSP Ukandu noted that the video went viral at the weekend, after more than one year after the incident happened.
He added that the video was forwarded to the State Commissioner of Police and other police personnel. A development which led to the arrest of the suspects on Monday.
Ukandu pointed out that the dehumanized girls are between the ages of 15 and 16. He stated that the girls were subjected to inhuman treatment which is against the law.
“Criminal cases have legal punishment as stipulated in the criminal code. If anyone is caught in such situation, the person should be handed over to the police. This treatment is too much for those small underage girls,” Ukandu said.
The PPRO noted that on assumption of office, the attention of the Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia Uche-Anya was drawn to the case.
Uche-Anya, therefore, emphasized the need to eradicate trial by ordeal, jungle justice, and self-help in criminal justice in the State.
The CP also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to rooting out such practices in Ebonyi State with stakeholders’ support.
She, however, assured that those involved will face the full force of the law over their alleged heinous actions.
