A 70-year-old man, identified as Stephen Irobunda has shot dead a youth identified as Bright Odizuru for playing football near his compound at Ohokobe Ndume, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State.
According to reports, Odizuru, was shot dead on Saturday by the Irobunda during an altercation between him and some youths in the community.
Community sources stated that the victim, alongside other youths, were playing football near Irobunda’s house during the Abia State Local Government election on Saturday, which infuriated the elderly man.
“It was gathered that the man fired into the air to scare away the youths,” DAILY POST reported.
After the gunshots, the youths went back to Irobunda house to know why he did that.
“At that point, the man drew his gun again and shot one of the youths, Bright Odizuru in his abdomen. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“The death of the young man infuriated the Ohokobe Mbaocha youths who pounced on the suspect. They attempted to lynch him before he was rescued by security agents.
“Not done, the youths also tried to set his house ablaze. But they were calmed down by the security agents,” DAILY POST reported
The spokesperson of Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, when contacted, confirmed the killing.
She said, “Police have such reports, crime scene has been visited and investigation is ongoing at SCID.”
