Barely two weeks to the Abia State Local Government election, political campaigns have hot up across the State. This is even as the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, have flagged off their campaigns in most Local Government Areas of the State.
The party is showing signs of seriousness towards winning in the forthcoming Chairmanship and Councillorship elections.
This was stated by the, the State Chairman of the party, Chris Onukwue.
Speaking at the campaign rally of his party held at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, Onukwe charged the candidates to take their campaigns to the nooks and crannies of Abia State.
He stated that the party is poised to win the election, scheduled for Saturday, November 2. He, therefore, urged the Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates in the 17 LGAs to work together with the leadership of the party to deliver at the polls.
In their responses, the Zenith Labour Party Chairmanship candidates for Isuikwuato LGA, Chinedu Ekeke, who spoke at the event assured that with the tickets given to them to fly the flags of the party, they would take their campaigns to all the nooks and crannies of the state and emerge victorious.
Recall that Ekeke was the immediate past Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Alex Otti.
The candidates equally said that they would represent the new face of leadership at the grassroots when elected on November 2.
However, the ruling Labour Party, LP, is presently in crisis in Abia State. This is even as two factions of the party has emerged struggling for the control of the party. One led by Emmanuel Otti and the other faction by Ndubueze.
According to our correspondent, the posters of ZLP candidates have flooded most Local Government Areas of the State.
Recall that the main opposition parties in the State have stated their readiness to contest in the election.
Meanwhile, the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti on Thursday said the State Government is ready to conduct the LG election. The Governor stated this while commissioning some projects executed by Aba South LGA Chairman.
Commenting on the campaigns, Otti stated that Abia people will vote for the right candidates irrespective of their platforms.
“As I have always known, Abia people go for the right candidates despite platform bias,” Otti told the Aba crowd.
