The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday announced the scrapping the Niger Delta Affairs and the Sports ministries.
Arising from the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the Council said the two ministries have been scrapped.
With the development, the National Sports Commission, NSC is now to play the role for the former sports ministry.
A new Ministry of Regional Development has been established to oversee all the regional development commissions in the country.
FEC also approved the merger of Ministries of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
This was contained in a statement by the Special adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Writing on his X post he said, “President Tinubu and Federal Executive Council scrap Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of sports development.
“There will now be a Ministry of Regional Development to oversee all the regional development commissions. Such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, North East Development Commission.
“The National Sports Commission, NSC, will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports.
“The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
“The decisions were taken today at the meeting of Federal Executive Council in Abuja.”
