The Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, has by his visit to two communities in Abia North averted crisis between cattle herders and the indigenes of the communities.
The Commissioner who visited the Lokpanta Cattle Market in Umunneochi LGA and Eziama Nunya Community in Isuikwuato LGA, went for an on-the-spot assessment.
This followed a recent report that unidentified assailants attacked the communities, injuring one person. And during melee, 65 cattle were alleged to be missing.
Isa, while in the areas extended his heartfelt sympathies to members of the community. He, however, reassured them of the Command’s unwavering commitment to bringing the perpetrators of the crime to justice.
The Commissioner also urged them to remain calm and cautioned against taking the law into their own hands. He urged them to cooperate fully with the Police in the investigation.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Maureen Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police on Saturday evening.
It stated that the Command has successfully recovered 56 out of the 65 missing cattle.
The Command stated that the cattle were recovered in collaboration with local guards from Seriki Hausa. It stated that efforts are ongoing to arrest the assailants.
“To expedite justice, the Command, in collaboration with local guards from Seriki Hausa, has successfully recovered 56 of the missing cattle. Intensive operations are in progress to track down the remaining cattle and apprehend the assailants,” the statement read.
