The remains of late Ifekwo Ogbonna, popularly known as (Nnaa ochie), was on Saturday, October 19 laid to rest at his compound at Alia Nwaro village of Umutejie na Oganya, Umuokogbuo Autonomous Community in Eluama, Isuamawu, Isuikwuato LGA, Abia State.
The funeral service which was conducted at the Umuokogbuo Hall complex by the Abboso Apostolic Faith Church of Jesus Christ, Umuokogbuo branch, saw the presence of family members, friends and mourners from far and near at the occasion.
Late Ogbonna was born on October 1st, 1954, to the family of late Mr. and Mrs. Mgbobodo Ogbonna of Umunwaro, Umutejie, Umuokogbuo, Eluama. He had his early education at Nara, under the tutelage of his elder sister, Ngwanma Ogbonna. Her influence over him played a significant role in the shaping young Ifekwo’s educational experience. Thus, fostering a love for learning that stayed with him throughout his life time.
His love for education notwithstanding, Ifekwo could not advance in formal education as he ventured into learning a trade due to circumstances. He was trained in wielding where he became a skilled wielder.
He was later to work in reputable construction companies; like SGEN, HAPEL where he contributed to the successes of the companies. Ifekwo, however, resigned from paid employment to set up his private business in wielding services, in 2013.
In 1992, Ogbonna got married to his heartthrob, Monica Ihuoma Ogbonna. The union was blessed with six children: four girls and two boys.
Ogbonna had the legacy of a peacemaker. He loved truthfulness, justice and equity in human dealings. His commitment to these values endeared him to many. And brought him respect from both young and old of those that came in contact with him.
Ogbonna was a community man and a devoted member of Umuokogbuo Development Union both in Enugu. He played an active role both in his branch and at home. He was the Chairman of Alia Nwaro kindred meeting.
Ogbonna was a good servant-leader. And as a peacemaker, he used his power of oratory to good advantage.
