The remains of His Royal Majesty, late Sir, Dr. Eze Ezo Ukandu, will on Friday, November 15, 2024, be laid to rest at the compound at Ahaba Imenyi Ancient Kingdom in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, Southeast, Nigeria.

This was contained in a press release signed by the Chairman of the Burial Committee, Senator Emma and Dr. Onyinyechi Rufus Obi. According to the Committee, the late Ukandu passed away on January 8, 2024, at the age of 87 years.

It described the late Royal Father as a man of many parts who distinguished himself in all of his life’s endeavours.

The release read: “He was a versatile business mogul in Aba, Abia State. With interest in the hospitality industry and the importation of general merchandize. He took advantage of the import substitution policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria to become a net manufacturer of DETA BATTERIES. With outlets all over Nigeria and the West Coast. One of his companies also had the franchise for the distribution and maintenance of Peugeot cars.

“Eze Ukandu  at a rather young age ascended the royal stool of Imenyi Ancient Kingdom and reigned for 48 years. In the course of his reign, he served as Chairman, Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers. He also became the first Chairman of Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers.

“HRM, Eze Ukandu had the distinction of being appointed a National Royal Ambassador, representing the Southeast in the National Peace Forum by President Obasanjo.

“It was in recognition of all these remarkable achievements in the business arena and other wholesome  endeavours, including philanthropy that the Abia State University, Uturu, conferred on him Doctorate Degree (Honris Causa) on him.

“His family, the people of Isuikwuato, and Abia State, including the entire Southeast, mourn the passing of this iconic leader. Who has left indelible marks on the sand of time, worthy of emulation. May his soul rest in peace.

The Committee announced that the funeral rites of the late royal father would start on Thursday, November 14, 2024. With the body leaving the Madona mortuary in Umuahia by 8.a.m.  By 10.a.m, the body would be received by the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers at the Council’s headquarters in Umuahia.

By 2.30.p.m. the body will be received at Obohia Ihenzu, Ahaba by his maternal community. The body will arrive at the Isuikwuato Local Government Headquarters at Mbalano, by 4.a.m. There, it will be received by the Isuikwuato Local Government Chairman and Isuikwuato Local Government Traditional Rulers Council.

By 6.p.m, the body will lie in state at his palace at His Royal Highness Palace, Ahaba.

A wake in his honour will start by 8.p.m at the Ahaba Imenyi Primary School field.

On Friday, November 15, by 10.a.m, a funeral church service will hold at the Ahaba Imenyi Primary School field. It will be followed by the internment of the remains of the late traditional ruler at his palace. And on Sunday, November 17, by 10.a.m, a church out will be celebrated in his honour.
