The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has reportedly recovered N8.62 million during a rescue operation in Kaduna State. This was disclosed by the Corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Tuesday.
According to the report the recovery happened after a road accident on the Zaria-Funtua Road in Kaduna State.
The crash, which occurred around 7 pm on September 30, involved a Nigerian Army Ford pickup truck and a speeding Toyota Corolla.
It stated that the Toyota Corolla, with registration number KTN 316 HK, was speeding in violation of the legal limit. As a result, the driver lost control and collided with the Ford pickup, registered as FST 134 FX.
“Three people were involved in the accident, with two sustaining various degrees of injury. They were immediately taken to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, for treatment. While the third victim escaped without injury.
“During the rescue operation, the FRSC personnel found and recovered N8.62m from the scene.
Reacting to the patriotic disposition of the Corps operatives at the recovery of the money, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended them. He praised them for the swift response and professionalism exhibited in handling both the injured and the recovered money.
The statement read in part, “The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has applauded the rescue team of the corps who successfully recovered the sum of N8.6m during a rescue operation that was carried out at the scene of a road traffic crash in Kaduna State.”
Mohammed, however, emphasized that speed violations remained one of the leading causes of road crashes in Nigeria. He, therefore, urged motorists to adhere to speed limits.
The Corps Marshall also encouraged the FRSC operatives to maintain the high standards of integrity for which the corps was known.
