Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Sunday declared the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo winner of Saturday’s Edo State Governorship Election.
Declaring the result, the Returning Officer, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, officially announced Okpebholo won the election having score the majority votes.
According to the REC, the results from all the 18 Local Government Areas of the State showed that the Okpebholo won in eleven LGAs. The APC candidate defeated the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.
INEC announced that Okpebholo garnered 291,667 votes to beat Ighodalo and Akpata with 247,274 and 18,737 votes, respectively.
With the victory, Okpebholo will take over from the outgoing Godwin Obaseki at the Osadebe House in Edo State.
In his remarks after his victory, the governor-elect, Okpebholo said he would continue from where the former Governor, Adams Oshiomole stopped.
