The Chairman, State Chapter of the Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna State, Alhaji Awwatu Tafoki, has rejected the appointment of former Finance Minister, Nenadi Usman, as the party’s Caretaker Chairman.

Recall that Usman was appointed the National Caretaker Chairman of the Labour Party by the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti in Umuahia.

However, the appointment has faced rejection by factions of the party including the party’s National Working Committee, NWC.

Reacting to Usman’s emergence, Tafoki described the appointment as illegal and unconstitutional.

He argued that the appointment by the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, lacks legitimacy.

“The meeting held in Umuahia, Abia State, under the governor’s supervision, was a waste of time and resources. Only the national party headquarters has the authority to elect a national caretaker committee.

“Therefore, we reject Nenadi’s appointment as Caretaker Committee Chair,” Tafoki stated.

Notwithstanding that Usman is hails from Kaduna State, Tafoki said her leadership would not be recognized.

This, he said, is because she lacks the support of the majority of party members.

Usman was appointed to lead the 29-member National Caretaker Committee at the stakeholders meeting in Umuahia, Abia State.
