In an effort to resolving the crisis threatening to destroy the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Kaduna State Chairman of the party, Felix Hassan Hyat, has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike to sheathe his sword. This is even as his actions could harm the party he laboured to build to its present position.
Hyat gave the advice in Kaduna on Tuesday, while appealing to the former Rivers State Governor to seek resolution through dialogue. He warned that threatening the PDP Governors who show support to Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State. would be counterproductive.
Recall that the PDP has been enmeshed in political crisis following the 2023 presidential elections.
And only recently, Wike issued a threat to the PDP Governors who stated that they would support the Rivers State Governor, Fubara in running his State.
Wike, not taking lightly to the support, threatened that he would ‘put fire’ in the States of the PDP Governors.
The former Governor and Minister of FCT, made the threat while addressing party members on Saturday during the PDP Congress in Port Harcourt. He threatened to cause political crisis in the States of any PDP Governor who interfered in the party’s affairs in Rivers State.
Reacting to Wike’s threat, Hyat opined that the PDP Governors have a valid reason to be involved. He noted that Fubara is their colleague.
He said, “Wike should remember that when he was a governor, his colleagues were always at his back. And they protected each other.”
Hyat, therefore, noted that nothing has changed in that regard. He added that instead of threatening the Governors, Wike should have seen it from this perspective and sought their support.
The Chairman maintained that it was wrong to tell people to stay away. When a system they are meant to benefit from is under threat. He reasoned that if the system fails, everyone loses.
Hyat, therefore, enjoined Wike not to destroy the party he helped nurture. He advocated that dialogue and reconciliation are essential to resolving the ongoing crisis within the party.
