The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA has stated that following a heavy down pour of rain, no few than 3,633 people from five communities in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been rendered homeless by flooding.
This was contained in a statement by the NEMA Northwest Zonal Coordinator, Imam Garki, in an interview with NAN on Friday in Kaduna.
Garki said the flooding that occurred on Aug. 25 affected Fadan Tsoho, Zonzon, Zangon Kataf, Unguwan Wakili and Zonkwa communities.
He said, “No fewer than 3,633 persons were displaced due to flooding and houses were damaged.”
The Coordinator stated that the agency in collaboration with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, KSEMA, assessment team carried the investigation. He noted that team discovered that the affected victims had taken refuge with relatives in neighbouring villages.
Garki also pointed out that invaluable household property worth billions in Naira was damaged while some houses were submerged.
“The assessment team also reported that farmlands, livestock that include sheep and goats were also lost to the flooding. With many of them still missing,” he said.
“We have seen the level of damage in the area. We would ensure that NEMA would not leave the victims in their state. As we will do our best to assist them,” Garki promised.
