The member representing the Aba North constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Aaron Uzodike of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been sworn in the the Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, Emmanuel Emeruwa, after nine months delay.
Uzodike, who contested the 2023 House of Assembly election on the platform of the PDP, was declared the winner by the Court of Appeal in Lagos. This came after the Appellate court sacked Destiny Akara Nwagwu of the Labour Party.
The court in passing its judgment asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to issue Uzodike the Certificate of Return.
The PDP lawmaker was also given the Certified True Copy of the Appeal Court judgement.
However, in spite of these, the Speaker refused to be sworn in Uzodike as a member of the House.
According to source, the delay in the swearing-in of Uzodike was attributed to an alleged court injunction thereby dragging the Aba North legislator’s wait to nine months.
Also, the Appeal Court ruling which sacked the former LP lawmaker, Destiny Nwagwu was rejected by the Labour Party members. The Labour Party had protested in the streets of Umuahia against the judgement.
But on Tuesday, Aaron Uzodike was finally sworn in by the Speaker. And action that elicited jubilation of PDP members in Aba North and across the State.
With the PDP member been sworn in, a political analyst said, Abians should expect some political developments in the House.
This is eve as Uzodike had in April dismissed rumours that he was being coerced to join the Labour Party.
