The embattled Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu on Monday officially resumed his office. This is coming after the court reinstated him following his impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly.
But resuming office on Monday, Shaibu directed all his staff to do the same by resuming their duties from the office of the Deputy Governor.
This was contained in a statement via his X handle.
Announcing his resumption via a video on X, he wrote: “In adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, I announce my official resumption to the office. God Bless Edo State, God Bless Nigeria.”
The reinstated Deputy Governor warned that staff who failed to resume office would face the consequences of their action.
Shaibu emphasized that the Federal High Court’s judgment, which reinstated him, meant his office was never vacant.
The Deputy Governor also warned banks against conducting transactions with his office without his explicit approval. He cited the illegality of such action.
Shaibu, however, expressed sadness over the killing of a police officer attached to the Edo APC governorship candidate.
Recall that a police officer attached to the APC guber candidate was shot dead on the day that Shaibu returned to Edo State after the court judgment.
Reminiscing, the Deputy Governor regretted that the suspects have been arrested.
Shaibu revealed that he has requested the State governor’s approval to reinstate his aides. He, however, stated that he is still awaiting a response.
The Edo State House of Assembly had impeached Shaibu following his face-off with Governor Godwin Obaseki.
But, the Appeal Court in Abuja had reinstated him despite the stance of the Edo State Government.
Though the State Governor, Obaseki has not reacted to the resumption of office of his deputy. The nation is awaiting more drama from Edo State in the day ahead.
