The Department of States Service (DSS) has debunked reports of its operatives raiding the claiming the Nigerian Labour Congress headquarters in Abuja.

Recall that on Wednesday night news emerged that operatives of the DSS stormed the NLC Headquarters and carted away some documents.

The news quoted to NLC to have said that the DSS operatives stormed the Labour House around 8:30 pm.

It stated, “They broke in and ransacked the bookshop on the 2nd floor carting away hundreds of books and other publications.”

Quoting the NLC’s head of Media and Public Relations, Benson Upah, it said, “The invading troop claimed that they were looking for seditious materials used for the #EndBadGoveranance Protests.”

NLC added that it was not immediately able to ascertain all the things taken away from its offices.

Also, in a press release signed by Upah, the NLC condemned the raid. It, therefore, demanded the immediate withdrawal of the security operatives from its headquarters.

The statement read in part, “The Nigeria Labour Congress condemns in its entirety this new low in security operations in Nigeria. The armed security operatives showed no legal document permitting them to invade the premises of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the ungodly hours of the night.”

“Even in the dark days of military rule, NLC secretariats were never invaded and ransacked by security agents. Today is indeed a very sad day for our democracy.”

But the DSS reacting to NLC’s claim on Thursday denied carrying out such operation.

This was contained in a statement by the spokesperson for the Service, Peter Afunanya. He said its personnel were not responsible for the ransacking of the labour union’s office.

The statement read, “Good morning, dear friends. Pls kindly note that the Service (DSS) did not carry out any operation at the NLC office in Abuja.”
