Telecommunication giant MTN on Tuesday announced the closure of all its offices and service centers nationwide. The shutdown which started July 30, 2024, will last for 24 hours.
The MTN Nigeria stated that the decision is in response to a series of vandalism incidents, which occurred over the weekend.
Recall that telecoms in the country over the weekend deactivated SIM cards that are not linked to National Identification Numbers, NINs.
This, however, did not go down well with those Nigerians affected by the disconnection.
Recall also that NCC had mandated the telecoms to disconnect customers not connected to NINs.
However, announcing the closure, MTN in a statement on X, urged affected customers to utilize digital support channels for assistance during the closure.
The company has also provided a step-by-step guide for subscribers to unblock their SIM online.
MTN reassured customers that normal operations would resume after the 24-hour period.
ISUIKWUATO VOICE recalls that on Monday, a group of angry subscribers demolished the fence of an MTN office in Festac town area of Lagos. This was following a protest on the disconnection of their telephone lines.
