Ahead of the August 1 proposed nationwide protest, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has again warned against any planned demonstrations in the city. The Minister stated that that FCT, is not available for any nationwide protest.
Wike, stated this on Thursday while addressing some FCT residents during an inspection tour in Saburi.
He said, “For those who want to protest on the 1st, FCT is not available for such protests.” The Minister, therefore, urged residents to desist from embarking on such act.
Wike said, “Organizing a protest won’t solve the challenges currently bedeviling the nation. But rather a joint effort from every well-meaning Nigerian.
The former Rivers State Governor and strongman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftain warned politicians not to destroy the nation. He said top political heads and other leaders who have thrown in support for the protest don’t mean good for the country. He, therefore, accused them of only doing so for their selfish interest
Acknowledging the prevailing economic challenges in the country, Wike stated that the government is working hard to addressing them.
He noted that the President Bola Tinubu led administration is doing everything possible to address the situation. The government is also committed towards improving the living conditions of all citizens.
The Minister, therefore, called on Nigerians to exercise patience with the Federal Government.
Recall that this is the second time in a week the Minister is warning against the planned nationwide protest.
On Tuesday, he described the planned demonstration as politically induced. He had said the idea is to divert the attention of Nigerians from efforts made by the current administration.
Recall also that President Bola Tinubu, Governors and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have all appealed to Nigerians to shelve the planned ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest slated for next month.
The protest which is being planned by unknown elements has been gaining traction on social media. According to the social media reports, the protest has been scheduled to start across all the 36 States and FCT, Abuja on August 1.
Recall also that many are holding President Tinubu for the escalating economic hardship being experienced across the country lately. The country’s worst inflation and economic crisis have been linked to the government’s twin policies of petrol subsidy removal and unification of forex windows. Policies that have made prices of food and basic commodities to go beyond the reach of majority of Nigerians in the last months.
