The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, has called out President Joe Biden to immediately resign.

The Speaker made this call following Biden withdrawal from the US Presidential election slated for November 2024.

Recall that President Biden on Sunday announced his withdrawal from the race and appointed his Vice President, Kamala Harris as a replacement.

But reacting to the announcement, Johnson said if Biden is not fit to contest the upcoming presidential election, then he should not continue as President.

This was contained in a statement he made on Sunday, following Biden’s announcement.

He said, “If Joe Biden is not fit to run for president, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately. November 5 cannot arrive soon enough.”

On Sunday, Biden announced his decision to pull out of the forthcoming presidential election. This coming due to intense pressure Democratic Party loyalists over his age and health.

Though, Biden had all along insisted that he was not going to step aside, he, however, announced his withdrawal on Sunday.

The President, however, vowed to focus on his duties as President of the United States.

Recall that on Friday, five House Democrats had charged the President to drop out of the 2024 election.

The lawmakers are Reps. Jared Huffman (California), Marc Veasey (Texas), Chuy Garcia (Illinois) and Marc Pocan (Wisconsin).

In a joint statement they issued, they urged Biden to “pass the torch to a new generation of Democratic leaders.”
