Enculturation is a process of training into the principles and lifestyle of a people. Bribery is the practice of giving money or other values in order to dictate actions to the giver’s favour.
Corruption is the habit and practice of accepting bribes from whoever is willing to give in order to do things to his or her favour.
Therefore, enculturation of bribery and corruption is a process of training a people to become amenable to accepting bribes in order to bend rules and please the giver(s).
Bribery and corruption are twin evils that operate in partnership. In other words, without bribery, there will be no corruption. This is because, it takes a giver of bribes to have a receiver of bribes.
And where this twin evils have been encultured; things will always turn topsy-turvy. Nobody will perform his or her official legitimate duties without asking for or accepting a bribe.
In such a working environment, employers of labour suffer untold losses. Whether the employment is that of the government, corporate bodies or otherwise, waste pipes are always created to siphon monies away.
Bribery and corruption operate in societies where money and material values are placed above moral decency and good names.
In such societies, moral decadence overtakes moral rectitude. In consequence, armed robbery, kidnapping, harlotry, hard drugs peddling etc., rule the lives of the people therein.
Everybody will be struggling to make ends meet in tandem with the evil trend. People will be weeping and waiting and will still be contributing their quota to the ugly mess!
Love of money, greediness and excessive ambition usually queue up to worsen matters. Those who have acquired money, no matter the means, are reverenced and worshipped as gods!
The poor who live by decent means are neglected and ignored. This is despite their avowed goodness.
It is very unfortunate that when humans create a doom that looms, they still lament and wail the loudest!
