Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has become the player with the most trophies in football history, according to reports

Messi who just captained the Argentina to lift the 2024 COPA America cup played for 60 minutes in the final match played on Sunday. Argentina beat Colombia 1-0 to the trophy.

With the victory over Colombia, the lifting of the trophy, makes it the 45th piece of silverware by Messi in his career.

Messi, therefore, has broken the record that was initially held by ex-Barcelona teammate Dani Alves (44).

He won 35 of his club career titles at Barcelona and six trophies with Argentina. These included the Copa America 2021 and Copa America 2024.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner also won the Olympic gold medal at Beijing 2008.

After joining PSG in 2021, Messi added three trophies to his cabinet – Ligue 1 (2021-22), (2022-23) and Trophee des Champions (2022).

In 2022, Messi won the FIFA World Cup with Argentina. And in 2023, he won the Leagues Cup 2023 trophy with Inter Miami.
