The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Dutsinma, FUDMA, Katsina State, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, has alleged that there are enemies of the State within his institution. He stated that some of the university’s staff were serving as informants to the bandits operating in the State.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed this to newsmen in Katsina on Tuesday. Bichi, however, stated that the contacts of the suspected staffers have been given to a security agency for further investigation.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the suspected bandits have been attacking the institution for some time. There have been reports of kidnapping of students and staffers of the university as well as their family members by the bandits.
During the recent attack one of the university’s staff was killed. The development prompted his colleagues to stage a peaceful protest over insecurity in the area.
Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor noted that the school management is doing everything possible to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. He, however, regretted that the situation is getting worse.
Bichi said, “This issue of informants is worrisome. Therefore, we investigated those we are suspecting of giving out their colleagues and students’ information.
“We have found them and handed their contacts over to one of the security agencies for further investigation.
“But we have not heard anything from the securities.
“These suspects are our staff. We have strong reasons for accusing them of being informants to bandits,” the VC stated.
However, the Katsina State Police Command has denied knowledge of any such issue. The Command, nonetheless, promised in the to further investigate the matter.
The Command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, called on the public to always assist the police with information. He stated that it would help to end the security challenges in the State.
