Reasons have emerged why an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, on Thursday declared as illegal the 33 LCDAs created in Ondo State.
Recall that the late Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu created 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) during his tenure.
But in his ruling, Justice A.O Adebusuoye, said the LCDAs were not lawfully created.
The late Governor had in September 2023 signed the Bill establishing the Councils into law. That was after it was passed by the Ondo State House of Assembly members, after the third reading.
The newly LCDAs have being co-existing with the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the State.
Therefore, the Local Council areas in Ondo State, total into 51.
Akeredolu governed Ondo from February 24, 2017, till his unfortunate death on December 27, 2023. His deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was immediately sworn in as Governor.
Akeredolu was a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). He also served President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and Attorney General of Ondo State.
