The former Governor of Rivers State and immediate-past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has stated that the current Governor of the State, Simi Fubara is only popular because of his anti-Wike posture.

The former Governor made this remark during his visit on Friday to a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Okorinama West, at his private residence in Port Harcourt.

Speaking on political feud between the two political leaders in the State, Amaechi said he would not support neither of the two: Governor Siminalaya Fubara and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Recall that in the face of the lingering political skirmishes in the State, Amaechi had remained silent.

But speaking on Friday, he said the popularity Governor Fubara appears to enjoy in Rivers State is the result of his public backlash against Wike.

“I can’t stand and join either Simi or Wike. I will not join Simi; I will not join Wike. But don’t forget that the two are not big without you people, I hope you know that.

“What Simi thinks is popular today, is because he is anti-Wike. That’s his popularity, not that Simi is the best man on earth. It’s because he is anti-Wike and because the State is tired of Wike,” the former Governor said.

Amaechi used the occasion to encourage young supporters to take an active role in shaping the leadership of the State.

He, however, lamented that some politicians, who were his supporters, had switched allegiance due to personal interests.

Recall that there is no love lost between Amaechi and Nyesom Wike as a result of political differences.
