The Police Service Commission, PSC, has approved the appointment of Yahaya Abubakar as Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG. Before the appointment. Abubakar was an Assistant Inspector General of Police.

This was contained in a statement by the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani. He stated that Abubakar was until his appointment the AIG in charge of Zone 14, Katsina.

By his appointment, Abubakar will represent the Northeast Geopolitical Zone in the Police Management Team. He is replacing DIG Habu Sani, who recently retired from the Force.

Sani served the NPF as DIG Force Intelligence Bureau and represented the Northeast Zone.

In a related development, PSC also approved the promotion of 122 other senior police officers. This is made of ten Commissioners of Police who were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General, AIG.

“Fifteen Deputy Commissioners of Police, DCP, were promoted to substantive Commissioners of Police, CP.

“Thirty-six Assistant Commissioners of Police, ACP, were moved up to Deputy Commissioners. While sixty-one Chief Superintendents of Police were also elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police,” the statement stated.
