A Chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, Iretidola Ojekhoa has told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to end hike in food items in the country.
Recall that Nigerians have being experiencing soaring prices of food across the country. This it has been alleged was caused by the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the Naira by President Tinubu.
Ojekhoa, who is the initiator and co-convener of Renewed Hope Unity Movement, made the call at an event in Abuja on Friday.
She pointed that Government should come up with emergency policies to address the rising cost of food.
She said, “Part of the solution is addressing food scarcity in Nigeria outside political appointments.
“The Presidency and the All Progressives Congress, APC, should do something about the hardship Nigerians are facing.
“The greatest support the Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has is from the people. There are a lot of people who supported this government but have never been recognized.”
Recall that the latest data by the NBS showed Nigeria’s food inflation increased to 40.53 percent in April. This is even as the purchasing power of Nigerians have continued to shrink.
World Bank had in February predicted that some States in the Northern part of the country will experience food insecurity. The States mentioned are Borno, Adamawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Yobe, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
According to World Bank, the food insecurity is due to insecurity and armed conflicts in the areas.
