A family of six have allegedly been reported missing after they were said to have gone to buy cow from Fulani herders at Ebonyi-Benue boundary community in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to report, the community leader, Chief Okebili Nwoka, said the six family members went missing on Saturday. He said they had visited some Fulani herders stationed at the boundary community to buy cow for the burial of their late in-law, Ogbuagu Ngbo of Nkaleke village.
The Community leader gave the names of the family members as Obinna Ajah, Aloysius Ajah, Titus Nwogha and Friday Nwuzu. Others, he said, are Emeka Okwor, and Anthony Ibina. They are all from Onuebor-Nomeh.
Narrating the story, Nwoka said, the victims were escorted by one of the Fulani herders when they were going to the cow selling point. He stated that there was a sudden delay on the way, but all their phones were switched off.
Nwoka further explained that the victims had been traced to Akpurata village. He, however, added that they are suspecting that the victim had been kidnapped by Effium warlords who had been engaged in a communal crisis with the Ezza people.
The Coordinator of the Effium Development Centre, Hon. Nwogbaga Ogbonna, has confirmed the incident. He described the missing persons as his brothers.
He stated that the matter had been reported to Ado Local Government Police Headquarters.
According to him, through intelligence, two suspects have been arrested so far.
But when contacted, the Ebonyi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, denied knowledge of the incident. He said no case of such had been reported to the Command.
Also, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, when contacted, told DAILY POST that she was in a noisy environment and requested a text message.
She couldn’t reply to the text message sent to her phone at the time of filing the report.
