Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Wednesday, gave himself a thumbs up for his performance as president in the last 365 days.
The President who was speaking on his one-year anniversary said that after assessing his performance in the last 366 days, that his government has walked the talk.
Tinubu also used the occasion to hail Nigerians for 25 years of unbroken democratic rule. He, however, urged the citizenry to build a nation for the good of future generations.
The President, however, warned against risking the nation’s democracy. He said, as Nigerians, “we must continue to collaborate. Work together and build our country against the backdrop that we do not have another country we can call our own.’’
At the National Assembly, the President formally flagged off the recitation of the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”
Recall that Tinubu had earlier signed into law the bill dropping the current national anthem, “Arise O Compatriots’’ for the old, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.’’
The Bill for the reintroduction of the former anthem was passed on Tuesday by the Senate. The Bill was passed by the House of Representatives last week.
While many Nigerians were expecting the President to address the nation, he did not give any. He, however, assured that his address would be on June 12, which is Democracy Day.
President Tinubu arrived the Green Chamber of the National Assembly at exactly 12.31pm. His arrival marked the official take off of the anthem, which they all sang with the Brigade of Guards leading.
Many dignitaries were also at the Senate chamber to witness the joint session. Prominent among them, were the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje. The Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh. And a host of former lawmakers.
The old anthem, has by been sang at the National Assembly, became the official National Anthem for Nigeria.
