The Israeli Government has recalled her envoys in Spain, Norway and Ireland. This is not unconnected with the statement on Wednesday by Prime Ministers of the Nordic countries that on May 28, they would be recognizing the State Palestinian.
But, reacting to the statement, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected any unilateral attempts to impose a Palestinian State.
Recall that earlier this week, Israeli Foreign Minister had stated that “Recognizing a Palestinian State will lead to more terrorism, instability in the region and jeopardize any prospects for peace.”
But with the latest decision of these European States, Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz has announced the recall of the country’s ambassadors from Norway and Ireland.
“I have instructed the immediate recall of Israel’s ambassadors to Ireland and Norway for consultations in light of these countries’ decisions to recognize a Palestinian state,” Katz said.
“I’m sending a clear and unequivocal message to Ireland and Norway. Israel will not remain silent in the face of those undermining its sovereignty and endangering its security.” The Foreign Minister posted on X platform.
Ireland is expected to announce a similar decision with Norway. This is after Norwegian Støre said his country would formally recognize Palestinian statehood on May 28.
Ireland, Norway and Spain have officially recognized Palestine as an Independent State. This prompted Israel to recall its ambassadors from two of the European States.
Speaking on Wednesday, Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris stated the stand of his country. He said: “Today Ireland, Norway and Spain are announcing that we recognize the State of Palestine. Each of us will undertake whatever national steps are necessary to give effect to that decision.
In a similar version, Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre toed the same line. He said on Wednesday, that the Nordic country will formally recognize Palestinian statehood. This move is staunchly opposed by Israel.
The Nordic country’s announcement comes amid a broader push within several European countries to recognize Palestine as a State. They believe it will advance the prospects for peace in the region.
But the Israeli Government will have none of that.
