Chadian Prime Minister, Succes Masra has announced his resignation from the newly elected government of Mahamat Idriss Derby Itno.

Masra revealed this when he said he had handed in his resignation to newly elected President of the country.

Recall that the PM was defeated in a Presidential election conducted last two weeks. He was defeated by the junta chief, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.

The PM resignation was disclosed on his Facebook page authenticated by his team to AFP o Wednesday.

He said, “I’ve just submitted my resignation and that of the Transition Government, which became irrelevant with the end of the presidential election.”

“The move,” he added, “was also in accordance with the Constitution.

Recall that Itno, 40, was proclaimed transitional President in April 2021 by a junta of 15 Generals. That was after his father, President Idriss Deby Itno, had been shot dead by rebels after 30 years in power.

However, in a Presidential election on May 6, Itno won the vote with 61 percent of the ballot. He was declared winner, having defeated Masra.

Masra, also aged 40 was once a fierce Itno’s opponent before becoming Prime Minister four months ago. He won 18.5 percent of the vote cast at the Presidential election.

Not satisfied by the outcome of the ballot, Masra contested the results.

He had claimed victory in the poll, which his party called a “masquerade”.  International Rights groups had also said the outcome of the election would be neither credible nor fair.
