Rainstorm on Thursday has caused havoc in about 10 Communities in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The rain which came with thunderstorm allegedly destroyed over 1, 000 houses, market buildings, 11 churches and mosques.
A resident of Kasuwan Magani, Tanko Gajere who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, explained that the rainstorm started on Thursday evening around 6:30pm. The rainstorm, however, lasted for over three hours, rendering more than 400 families around the area, homeless.
Gajere added that “over 400 houses, 11 churches and a modern market were destroyed by the rainstorm.
“We’re in a very difficult situation now. There are some families who can hardly feed themselves before now, talk more about fixing their damaged homes.”
He further explained that the roofs of many houses were blown away by up to half a kilometre distance. This is as a result of the powerful effect of windstorms.
Gajere added that the affected communities needed immediate government intervention. He stated that most of the people affected were ordinarily people who could not even feed themselves. The bemoaned that they have now been rendered homeless.
He, therefore, appealed to both the Federal and the Kaduna State Governments for assistance. He said they should send relief materials to help cushion the effect of the disaster on the people.
DAILY POST reports that the affected Communities are Kasuwan Magani, Dutsen Gaya, Rumau, Kanla, and Iburu. Others are Gefe, Ungwan Kajuru, Ungwan, Aku, Kufana and part of the Idon community.
The source also assured that the Kaduna State Government has been briefed about the sad incident. He, however, noted that they had yet to receive any intervention in the form of succour from the government.
