This is not the best of times for the Nigerian entertainment industry as yet another veteran actress, Madam Elizabeth Evoeme, popularly known as Ovularia in the 80s TV sitcom, ‘The New Masquerade’, is dead. According to report, Evoeme died at the age of 81.
Recall that the Nigerian Nollywood since year 2024 has lost prominent practitioners in the industry. Among the Nollywood actors that passed on this year included Mr. Ibu, Ameachi Mounagor, and Jnr. Pope who drowned in River Niger alongside four other practitioners.
Recall that on November 5, 2019, it was rumoured that Ovularia had died. The rumour, however, turned out to be false.
According to PUNCH, the statement by Evoeme family has now announced the death of the veteran actress.
The statement revealed that the actress died in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital. However, it did not state the date and time of the death.
The statement read, “Friends, fans, colleagues, the family of the legendary actress, Elizabeth Lizzy ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme, would like to notify the public, all those who loved her and her work in ‘The new Masquerade,’ of her passing.
“Elizabeth ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme will be dearly missed and was extremely loved by her family and also by you, her fans.
“We thank you all for your support and for respecting our privacy at this time. God bless you all and may our dear Elizabeth ‘Ovularia’ Evoeme rest in perfect peace, now and always,” Punch stated.
However, details of her death were not revealed.
Ovularia would be remembered by television viewers in the 1980s and 90s of the roles she played in the popular soap opera, The Masquerade. The programme was shown on Nigeria Television Authority, NTA every 7. 30 pm. It was a must watch for television viewers.
Evoeme played the role of an obedient house to Chike Okpala who was popularly known as Chief Zebrudaya Okoroigwe Nwaogbo, alias 4. 30.
Other interesting actors included Jegede Shokoya, Nathy, and Gregory.
